In celebration of Berwyn’s Lantern Parade on September 26, we are making lanterns all month long at the studio! Light up your creativity in this fun three-part lantern-making series! Young artists will design and build their own unique lantern while exploring color, pattern, texture, and simple sculpture techniques. Throughout the series, students will develop creative problem-solving skills, practice fine motor skills, and gain confidence as they transform everyday materials into a beautiful, functional work of art.

Bring imagination to life as we create colorful Mexican-inspired alebrijes—fantastical spirit dragons full of personality and vibrant patterns! Students will build a small papier-mâché sculpture (under 12 inches) that stands on its own, then paint it with bold colors and imaginative details inspired by the festive spirit of Mexican folk art.

Along the way, young artists will naturally develop sculpture techniques, creative problem-solving, design skills, and decision-making as they discover how to transform simple materials into three-dimensional creatures. Without even realizing it, they'll be learning the foundations of building monsters, dragons, and other original characters from the inside out.

This hands-on class is perfect for creative kids who love to build, invent, and get a little messy while making a one-of-a-kind holiday keepsake they'll be proud to display.

Want to make art but need more space (and supplies) to create your art? Come to Grey Phoenix for our Teen Art Studio!

By using the space to work on your art, you'll have access to supplies such as paint & brushes, markers, oil pastels, colored pencils, air-dry clay, and more! We'll provide the supplies, you just have to bring the ideas! Teens are encouraged to bring tools they prefer (drawing tablets, camera, tablet, etc.)

Transform a simple piece of paper into a whole new world in this two part series! In this paper cutting class, you'll create a zine and a cast of characters to fill it. Create your own magical world by releasing your paper cut beings into the wild. You'll also learn about other artists and storytellers that use this centuries old craft to create stories and environments as simple or complex as they choose. No experience necessary, just bring your imagination.

2 part series - September 29 & October 6

Get ready to imagine, build, and invent in this fun two-part art adventure! In this creative series, young artists will design and construct their very own steampunk-inspired robot using mixed-media materials, recycled elements, and lots of imagination. Students will explore the exciting world of gears, gadgets, and futuristic inventions with a vintage twist.

In Part 1, students will brainstorm their robot designs, sketch their ideas, and begin building the base structure using cardboard and recycled materials. In Part 2, artists will add personality and detail using paint, metallic finishes, textures, and decorative “mechanical” elements like gears, bolts, and levers to bring their robot to life.

This hands-on class encourages creativity, problem-solving, and imaginative storytelling as students turn everyday materials into one-of-a-kind robotic creations.

Skill Level: Beginner-friendly; no prior experience required

All materials are included. Students will take home one completed steampunk robot at the end of the series.

Welcome to a world of color, texture, and imagination in this 6 part class! In our Mini Monets class, young artists dive into the joy of creation. At this magical stage, children naturally begin experimenting with lines, shapes, and colors. Our focus is entirely on the journey, not the destination. Kids aren't pressured to make realistic drawings. Instead, they learn to express their unique ideas and develop vital motor skills in a playful, pressure-free environment.

In this exciting hands-on series, young artists will discover some of the most famous artists in history and explore the powerful ideas behind their work. Each week, students will learn about an influential artist or art movement and create their own artwork inspired by their unique style, techniques, and creative vision.

Through painting, drawing, collage, and mixed-media projects, students will experiment with new ways of thinking and making art—just like the masters. Along the way, they’ll build confidence, develop artistic skills, and learn how art can express emotions, tell stories, and change the way we see the world.

This series encourages creativity, curiosity, and fearless self-expression in a fun and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to develop their own artistic voice.

Through painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, and mixed-media projects, students will explore how art has changed across cultures and throughout history while developing their own creativity and artistic confidence. Along the way, they'll learn about influential artists, experiment with new materials, and discover that every work of art tells a story.

Each week, students will “visit” a new region and create artwork inspired by its unique artistic styles and cultural influences.

Through drawing, painting, collage, and mixed-media projects, students will learn how art reflects history, storytelling, and everyday life in different parts of the world. Along the way, they’ll experiment with new materials and techniques while building confidence, creativity, and appreciation for global art traditions.

This series encourages curiosity, cultural appreciation, and creative expression in a fun and welcoming studio environment where every student creates their own unique interpretation of global art.
